The Tennessee Titans will travel west when they face the San Francisco 49ers in an NFL game on Sunday afternoon. The Tennessee Titans finally got their first win after 7 tries beating Jacksonville 30-13 last week. Vince Young got the start for the Titans and was 15 of 18 for only 125 yards and 1 touchdown pass. Young’s longest pass play was only for 18 yards. Its worth noting that Young was passing against the worst NFL secondary in the league as the Jaguars allow opposing quarterbacks to complete 71.1% of their passes on the season. Young is not an accurate passer and he will struggle against a 49ers secondary that plays tight coverage schemes on opposing receivers which will exploit the lack of accuracy in Vince Young. Titans running back Chris Johnson is coming off a monster week rushing for 228 yards on 24 carries for a 9.5 yards per carry average. Johnson has run well this season sporting a 6.9 yards per carry average on the season. Tennessee’s defense has been miserable this season allowing an average of 30 points per game and their secondary 282 yards per game to opposing quarterbacks. San Francisco came off their bye and did a good job in red zone defense in giving up just 18 points to Indianapolis last week. Peyton Manning did not have a touchdown pass against the 49ers. San Francisco is a good rush defense allowing opponents to only rush for an average of 84.9 yards per game and a at just 3.2 yards per carry average they rank #1 in the NFL. The 49ers made a quarterback change to Alex Smith under center last week and he completed 19 of 32 for 198 yards and 1 touchdown with 1 interception. Smith was throwing against the best pass defense in Indianapolis last week and now faces among the worst in the league. Smith has good targets in the passing game with tight end Vernon Davis and wide receiver Michael Crabtree. Running back Frank Gore is back healthy and pulled off a 64-yard touchdown run on the Colts defense last week. Gore ended up with 91 yards on 13 carries for 7.0 yards per carry average last week. For the season Frank Gore is averaging 5.6 yards per carry on the season.
Tony T’s Opinion: If this game makes my card I will be on the San Francisco 49ers. They have a healthy Frank Gore back in their lineup that did not play in the 49ers home debacle to the Falcons. A horrible spot for Vince Young who will face a fierce 49er pass rush and will be forced to complete passes against tight coverage. Young is not accurate enough to complete passes against this type secondary and has never shown the ability to hit the long ball. The field has shortened for the Titans with Vince Young under center. Last week was certainly fools gold for Vince Young.
