The San Diego Chargers off their 2 game winning streak will make the trip out east to face the New York Giants in an NFL football game on Sunday afternoon. Kick off time in New York is set for 4:15PM Eastern Time with national television coverage provided by CBS. The LVSC NFL odds makers have set the opening point spread in this game and the New York Giants opened as a 4 point favorite with the over under coming in at 47. The early money from the NFL betting public has been favorite money, as the New York Giants are currently a 4-½ point favorite. The over under has seen early movement by the NFL betting public towards the over, as the current total is lined at 48 for the bettors to play into. NFL money line gamblers can make a play on the favored New York Giants at –200 with the road underdog San Diego Chargers bringing back +170 to win straight up without the points a factor in the bet.
San Diego has won back-to-back games but it was against weak divisional rivals beating Kansas City 37-7 and the Oakland Raiders 24-16. The Chargers defense allowed an atrocious Raiders offense to just 99 yards rushing and 81 through the air in victory. A troubling stat for the Chargers offense was despite 21 first half points the team could only muster 3-second half points. San Diego starting quarterback Phillip Rivers has hit on 59% of his passes for 11 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. The Chargers offensive line will be tested facing a good Giants pass rush. Rivers has been sacked 16 times this season. The Chargers defense could not get off the field in the second half last week as the Raiders engineered drives of 8, 11 and 10 plays they kept Phillip Rivers and his offense off the field. The Chargers beat up on weak competition beating the Raiders twice, Kansas City and Miami with Chad Pennington under center with their losses coming to Baltimore, Pittsburgh and Denver. In their losses the Chargers could not run a lick with 50 carries for 142 yards. The New York Giants after a fast 5-0 start have dropped three straight games. The Giants have suffered key injuries to their starting safeties and the opposition has exploited them. In their losses the Giants faced pass heavy teams such as New Orleans, Arizona and Philadelphia that torched the Giants secondary. The Giants offense has been very poor taking care of the football with 9 turnovers in their past 3 games. Giants quarterback Eli Manning has struggled hitting his receivers as he has been no accurate than 51.4% during the teams 3 game-losing streak. Eli Manning has thrown 5 interceptions the past two weeks. Since injuring his heel in week 5 against Oakland, Manning has not performed well and he is not making it an excuse about his performance. Giant’s running back Brandon Jacobs has not had a game where he has rushed for 100 yards or more this season and has just 3.9 yards per carry average that is over a yard less than he ran for in 2008.
