The Dolphins since inserting second year quarterback Chad Henne for an injured Chad Pennington has seen their point totals skyrocket. With Henne starting under center for the Dolphins the team has scored no fewer than 30 points in their past 4 games with three of those games against AFC East division rivals. Henne gives Miami a strong arm quarterback who can lengthen the field which not only aids the passing game but forces the back 7 of opposing defenses to not crowd the line of scrimmage aiding the run game. Miami was very fortunate last week to score 14 points off kick off returns by Ted Guinn Jr. and a touchdown off a fumble recovery. The Dolphins in victory last week could only gain 52 yards on the ground and just 52 through the air. The Dolphins secondary continues to give up chunks of yardage, as Mark Sanchez was able to throw for 251 yards last week. Miami gives up big plays in their secondary allowing 13.5 yards per catch ranking 31st in the NFL. The Dolphins secondary are poor tacklers in the open field. Chad Henne is completing 59% of his passes with 4 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. The Dolphins ground game has been good as Ricky Williams is averaging 5.4 yards per carry and Ronnie Brown 4.3. The Dolphins have rushed for 12 touchdowns this season. New England is coming off their bye week after pounding the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 35-7 in London. Tom Brady was 23 of 32 for 307 yards and 3 touchdowns but two interceptions against the very bad Buccaneers secondary. Brady has been very accurate over his past two games hitting on 52 of 66 for 688 yards and 9 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Granted those numbers were against poor secondaries like Tennessee and Tampa Bay but the Miami Dolphins huge weakness on their team is their back 4. Running back Laurence Maroney has been very inconsistent this season with just 4.3 yards per carry average on the season. New England passes over 75% of the time this season. New England’s defense limited their past 2 opponents to just 7 points total. New England’s rush defense will be tested here against the good running game of Miami as the Patriots ranks 21st in the NFL allowing 4.5 yards per rushing attempt.
