The New York Giants will hit the road to face their NFC East rival the Philadelphia Eagles in an NFL football game on Sunday afternoon. Kick off time in Philadelphia is scheduled at 1PM Eastern Time with regional television coverage provided by Fox. Note the time change in this game as it has moved from 4:15PM Eastern to 1PM Eastern Time. The LVSC NFL odds makers have set the opening point spread in this game and home team Philadelphia Eagles opened as a 3 point favorite with the over under coming in at 46 1/2. The early money from the NFL betting public has come in on the road team New York Giants, as the Philadelphia Eagles are currently a 2-½ point favorite. The early money from the bettors has bet the total downward, as the over under is currently lined at 44 for the public to play into. NFL money line gamblers can make a play on the favored Philadelphia Eagles at –130 with the underdog New York Giants returning +110 to pull off the upset victory with no need for taking the points.
The Giants after a 5-0 start to the season now find themselves at 5-2 after dropping two straight games. The Giants injury riddled secondary was exposed against the good passing offenses of the New Orleans Saints and Arizona Cardinals. The Giants have given up 576 yards passing the past two games. The Giants also had ball security issues with 6 turnovers the past two games. Giants starting quarterback Eli Manning has hit on less than 50% of his passes during this losing streak with 2 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. New York Giants running back Brandon Jacobs had one of his patented power rushing performances with a 5.8 yards per carry average last week. The problem is he only had 13 carries on Sunday. Last week the Giants could not keep drives going as the team was just 5 of 14 on third down conversions. The Eagles are coming off a 27-17 win on Monday night against Washington. The Eagles were recipients of 4 Redskins turnovers in victory. The Eagles offense was not very effective on third downs as the team was just 4 of 15 on conversion attempts. Donovan McNabb was 15 of 25 for 156 yards and a touchdown pass against Washington. The Eagles have injury concerns as running back Brian Westbrook left the game early on Monday night with a concussion after taking a knee to his helmet. After the game Eagles head coach Andy Reid said his star running back was feeling good after the game. Westbrook’s status is day by day, as the team will evaluate how he responds during the week from that blow to his head. The Eagles have weapons in the passing game to exploit the Giants secondary as wide receiver DeSean Jackson has 21 catches for 423 yards for an impressive 20.1 yards per completion average. Rookie Jeremy Maclin has 18 catches for 13.7 yards per catch average and tight end Brent Celek leads the team with 33 catches for 11.7 yards per completion average. In the past losing Westbrook for any period of time would cripple the Eagles offense but they may have some playmakers on offense to get them through for a short period of time without Westbrook. Rookie Eagles running back LeSean McCoy has 59 rushing attempts for 212 yards and 3.6 yards per carry average on the year. McCoy has also contributed out of the backfield with 13 catches for 92 yards.
Tony T’s Opinion: With the line dropping on the Eagles I like them better and better. I do believe the Eagles can have success in this game even without Westbrook with McNabb going after the Giants makeshift secondary. If this game makes my card I may lean on the Eagles.
