The undefeated Denver Broncos coming off their bye week will face the Baltimore Ravens off their bye week in an NFL game on Sunday afternoon. Kick off time in Baltimore is scheduled for 1PM Eastern Time with national television coverage provided by CBS. The LVSC NFL odds makers have set the opening point spread in this game and the Baltimore Ravens opened as a 3 ½ point favorite with the over under coming in at 38 ½. The early money from the NFL betting public has been underdog money, as the Baltimore Ravens are currently a 3-point favorite. The over under has seen heavy action to the over, as the current total is lined at 41 ½ for the sports betting public to play into. NFL money line bettors can make a play on the favored Baltimore Ravens at –185 with the road underdog Denver Broncos returning +160 to win straight up without the points spread a factor in the bet.
The Denver Broncos are an undefeated football team at 6-0 with an outstanding defense. The team has only allowed their opponents 10 second half points all season. Denver gives up just an average of 11 points per game and 262 yards per game. Teams have a difficult time running against the Broncos as the Denver Broncos defense allows just 3.3 yards per carry average on the ground. Denver’s starting quarterback Kyle Orton has played outstanding football hitting on just under 64% of his passes for 9 touchdowns and just 1 interception and possesses a passer rating of 100.1% this season. On the ground Correll Buckhalter has been a good acquisition with a yards per carry average of 6.7 this season. Rookie Knowhon Moreno has carried the ball 99 times for a 3.8 yards per carry average. The Broncos have the horses in their passing game and its led by Brandon Marshall who has 29 receptions on the year with 13 coming in his past two games. The Broncos have the firepower to attack a Ravens passing defense that allows 12.3 yards per completion, which ranks 28th in the league. Baltimore enters the bye week losers of three straight games all by 6 points or less. The Ravens missed a field goal in the closing seconds of their last game to the Minnesota Vikings losing 33-31. Without Rex Ryan running the defense for the Baltimore Ravens there has been a significant drop off in performance from this unit. The Ravens defensively have given up points this season as their opponents have scored 24 or more points in 4 of their 6 games this season. A Ravens defense that allowed their opponents 15 points per game in 2008 is allowing 21.7 thus far in the 2009 season. On the offensive side the team is producing more points as they average over 28 points per game. Second year quarterback Joe Flacco is hitting on 64% of his passes this season with 11 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. The running game has been excellent as Ray Rice averages 6.0 yards a carry in 73 rushing attempts and Willis McGahee 4.5 yards a carry in 45 carries.
Tony T’s Opinion: With the Ravens coming off the bye you would have to expect the team to be better defensively. If this game would make my card I would lean towards the under as Denver has been outstanding in all phases off the game on defense and the Ravens have the talent and with a bye week could come together as a defense in this spot. Could be a playoff type atmosphere here and a low scoring grind it out game is very possible.
