The New York Jets will travel cross country to take on the Oakland Raiders in an NFL contest on Sunday afternoon. Kick off time is set for 4PM Eastern Time with regional coverage provided by CBS. The LVSC NFL odds makers have set the opening point spread in this game and the New York Jets opened as a 7 ½ point favorite with the over under coming in at 35 ½. The early money from the NFL betting public has come in on the underdog Oakland Raiders, as the New York Jets are currently a 6-point favorite. The total has seen betting action to the under as the total is currently lined at 34 ½ for the NFL betting public to play into. NFL money line players can make a play on the favored New York Jets at –275 with the Oakland Raiders bringing back +235 to win straight up without the point spread a factor in the money line bet.

The Jets have dropped three straight games. Rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez is coming off a 5 interception performance last week in a home loss to the Chicago Bears. Sanchez is only hitting on 52% of his passes on the season. The Jets have gotten production on the ground as Thomas Jones on 96 carries has 5.0 yards per carry average. Leon Washington has 4.6 yards per carry average on 70 carries. With the production coming in the running game one has to wonder if Rex Ryan will make the switch to back up quarterback Kellen Clemens. The Jets offense has begun to spin downward as the team now converts only 32 1/2% of their third downs. The Jets had a huge loss on defense, as their stud nose tackle Kris Jenkins has been lost for the season with a torn ACL. Oakland surprised the Philadelphia Phillies at home 13-9 last week. Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell was 17 of 28 for 224 yards and a touchdown pass last week. Russell threw two interceptions and the team only generated 13 points. The 86-yard touchdown pass to Zach Miller was a throw every quarterback in this league could make, as it was a routine throw to a wide open tight end with no defender in site. On the ground the Raiders could only muster 3.3 yards per carry last week. The defense brought an outstanding performance last week for the Raiders. Philadelphia could only convert 2 of 16 on third downs. The Raiders showed the form on defense like they did in the first two weeks of the season.

Tony T’s Opinion: The Jets running game has been strong and the weather should be better for Mark Sanchez to work with as the game is on the west coast. Expect the Jets to bring heavy pressure on JaMarcus Russell. With pressure on Russell we could see some turnovers on the Raiders side. The Raiders won last week but their offense could only generate a touchdown and two field goals. This game most likely will not make my card. I can’t trust JaMarcus Russell against a Rex Ryan blitzing defense.
