The Notre Dame Fighting Irish will look to bounce back in the win column when they host the Boston College Eagles in a college football game on Saturday afternoon. Kick off time in South Bend Indiana is scheduled for 3:30PM Eastern Time with national television coverage provided by NBC. The LVSC college football odds maker have set the opening point spread in this game and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish opened as a 10 point favorite. The early money from the college football betting public came on the underdog Boston College Eagles, as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish is currently an 8-point favorite in the betting. College football money line players can make a play on the favored Notre Dame Fighting Irish at –305 with the underdog Boston College Eagles returning +255 to win straight up without the points on their side.
Notre Dame found themselves behind once again in the fourth quarter of a game this season and came up a touchdown short after failing to convert on a touchdown near the goal line in their loss to the USC Trojans last week. It was the same old story for the Irish last week as they accumulated a bunch of yardage on offense and gave their opponents offense a bunch of yardage. Other than the Nevada game the Irish has not beaten anyone after 60 minutes of play by more than three points. The Washington Huskies were tied at 30-30 with Notre Dame at the end of four quarters on October 3rd. Jimmy Clausen after a slow start was able to rally his offense late and finished 24 of 43 for 260 yards two touchdowns and no interceptions on the day. He was under pressure through most of the game as he was sacked 5 times in the game. He was not aided by his run game, as the ball carriers were only able to gather 82 yards on the ground in 31 attempts for 2.6 yards per rush average. On the defensive side the Notre Dame defense allowed a freshman quarterback on their soil to pass for 380 yards and two touchdowns. Notre Dame is allowing their opponents an average of 283 passing yards which ranks 117th in the nation. Boston College is 0-2 this season in their 2 road games, losing at Clemson 25-7 and at Virginia Tech 48-14. Boston College self destructed in those losses combining for 7 turnovers in those games. Boston College will line up yet another freshman quarterback under center as Dave Shinskie is coming off a winning performance home to North Carolina St last week. Boston College put up 52 points on NC State and Shinskie was 13 of 25 for 187 yards and two touchdowns. Shinskie had a bad game in his lone road start hitting on just 1 of 12 passes for 4 yards and two interceptions in a 48-14 loss at Virginia Tech. The strength of the Boston College offense is in the legs or running back Montel Harris who has rushed for 756 yards on 134 carries for an impressive 5.6 yards per carry average. The sophomore running back ran wild last week at home to NC State with 264 rushing yards on 26 attempts for 5 touchdowns. Against the two good defensive teams on the schedule Harris was only able to rush for 13 yards on 12 carries against Clemson and 43 yards on 11 carries against Virginia Tech. Notre Dame did a good job containing the USC Trojans run game limiting the Trojans to less than 4 yards a carry last week. Notre Dame is 88th in the all of college football allowing opposing teams to average 4.31 yards per carry against them.
Tony T’s Opinion: I want no part of laying more that a touchdown with Notre Dame. They have played down to their opponents this season for the lone exception being Nevada in week 1. Notre Dame is 0-4 ATS when favored against BCS conference teams this season. Notre Dame has had the history under Charlie Weiss to build leads only to lose them late and there is no way you should lay 8 points on the Irish. If this game makes my card I would be on the underdog in this game. There may be better opportunities out there but this game could possibly make my card.
