The early money from the college football betting public has come in on the favorite, as the Clemson Tigers are currently a 7-½ point favorite. The current over under is lined at 48 ½ for the college football betting public to play into. College football money line gamblers can make a play on the favored Clemson Tigers at –270 with the underdog Wake Forest Demon Deacons returning +230 to pull off the upset road victory without the points aiding their side.
Clemson enters this ACC conference game off consecutive losses on the season. The Tigers dropped a 14-10 home decision to TCU and the following week a loss to a bad Maryland Terrapins team 24-21. If Clemson falls behind in games they have to rely of a freshman quarterback to engineer a comeback. That is a tough proposition for these Clemson Tigers when freshman quarterback Kyle Parker is hitting on just 48% of his passes for a measly 5.89 yards per attempt average. Parker has thrown for 5 touchdowns and 5 interceptions on the season. The team will rely on senior running back C.J. Spiller who has rushed for 360 yards on 85 attempts for 4.2 yards per carry average. His 4.2 yards per carry average is a full yard behind Spiller’s numbers last year and 3 yards below his freshman numbers. Clemson is the #3 defense in the ACC Conference giving up an average of 288 yards per game and 4.4 yards per play average. Wake Forest is 4-2 this season and is coming off two straight wins against ACC Conference opponents. Wake Forest will only play their second road game this season. The Demon Deacons suffered a loss at Boston College 27-24 in their lone loss in ACC Conference play. Wake Forest is a high scoring offense averaging 29 points per game. Senior quarterback Riley Skinner is hitting on just under 70% of his passes with 15 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. In his three games against ACC opponents Skinner passed for well over 300 yards. The Demon Deacons are ranked 9th in the ACC conference in defense allowing 361 yards per game. Wake Forest only allows 119 yards rushing per game and just 3.75 yards per rush average against their defense, ranking 3rd in the ACC. The Clemson concern is their quarterback may not be good enough to exploit the Wake Forest passing defense.
Tony T’s opinion: I believe Wake Forest may be a live underdog in this game. The quarterback comparison is too great on the Wake Forest side to make a play on the home favorite here. If you are playing this game you better be taking the points with the road underdog.
