Stanford is coming off a bad 38-28 home loss to Oregon St. The team took advantage of their speed and their fast track to storm out to a 31-7 halftime lead on the Cardinal. Stanford was just 1 of 9 on third down on the Oregon St defense. The bettors have gotten behind the Wildcats because of their good run defense. The feeling is if the Beavers defense could contain the Cardinal offense than the Wildcats better defense can do an ever better job against Stanford. Cardinal running back Toby Gerhart rushed 20 times for 96 yards. The Cardinal freshman quarterback struggled mightily against his toughest defense as Andrew Luck was only 12 of 30 for 226 yards and two touchdowns against Oregon St’s defense. It’s worth noting that Stanford piled up their offensive stats in the fourth quarter when the game was well decided. Most in the industry would call this garbage yardage. When the game was in doubt the Stanford offense could not do very much. Oregon St had 4 touchdowns and 1 field goal in their first five possessions against Stanford last week and just coasted home and allowed garbage yardage.
