It will be a battle for the state of Nevada when the UNLV Rebels travels north to face the Nevada Wolf Pack in a college football game on Saturday afternoon. Kick off time in Reno Nevada is set for 4PM Eastern Time with no television nor internet television coverage available. Channing Trotter is the Rebels leading ground carrier on the season with 295 yards rushing on 59 attempts four touchdowns for 5.0 yards per attempt average. UNLV is seventh in the Mountain West in total defense allowing the opposition to gain 368 yards per game. UNLV faces Nevada on the back end of back-to-back road games. It has been a very disappointing season for the Nevada Wolf Pack so far. The team is 0-3 on the season and desperate for a win. In Nevada’s defense they have played high profile teams in the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Missouri Tigers this season with a road game at much improved Colorado St. Junior starting quarterback Colin Kaepernick in his third year as starting quarterback at Nevada is completing 60.7% of his passes for 546 yards two touchdowns but 4 interceptions. Kaepernick is well behind the 22 passing touchdowns he had in 2008. There are injury concerns for Nevada at running back as leading rusher Vai Taua is doubtful with a bad elbow. He may be held back as the team opens WAC play the following Friday night hosting Louisiana Tech. Senior running back Luke Lippincott will start in place of Taua and have averaged 5.2 yards per carry in 32 rushing attempts this season. Lippincott has seen plenty of action in all four years at the school. Nevada is giving up tons of yardage in the passing game as opposing teams are averaging 312 yards passing per game on this unit.
