The LSU Tigers survived a major scare in SEC Conference play as their defense made a goal line stand in the closing minutes to beat the Mississippi St Bulldogs 30-24 last week. LSU is not an explosive offense based on their 310 yards per game average on the season, which ranks them at the bottom in the SEC. Sophomore quarterback Jordan Jefferson is hitting on 61% of his passes this season with 7 touchdowns and only 1 interception. Senior running back Charles Scott is off to a slow start this season gaining 179 yards on 43 carries for 4.2 yards per carry average against soft competition. LSU hasn’t even sniffed the toughest part of the schedule making Scott’s numbers on the season a major cause for concern. LSU rushing defense is always tough against the run as teams are only averaging 3.55 yards per attempt. The Tigers are still good defensively allowing opposing offenses to only average 15.3 points per game. On the Georgia Bulldogs side their defense has come under fire this season. The teams sits at 3-1 on the season but the Bulldogs are giving up nearly 30 points a game to their opponents. Teams are passing for an average of 243 yards per game against them which ranks second to last in the SEC. Georgia senior quarterback Joe Cox is hitting on 60% of his passes this season with 9 touchdowns and 5 interceptions this season. Georgia has put up points against high profile teams this season with 41 on South Carolina and 52 on Arkansas. Georgia is a below average running team this season averaging just 3.6 yards per carry in 126 attempts. Their talented sophomore running back Caleb King is back for the Bulldogs and gained 5.4 yards per carry on 11 rushing attempts against Arkansas and 5.0 yards per carry on 11 rushes last week against Arizona St to help turnaround the Georgia Bulldogs running game.
