The UNLV Rebels came from behind to pull off a 34-33 home victory against Hawaii last week. The Rebels are 2-1 on the season and could be entering the Wyoming game 3-0 had it not lost in the closing minutes to Oregon St in week number two. UNLV opens Mountain West play on the road at Wyoming and under head coach Mike Sanford would like to reverse a negative trend. The UNLV Rebels are 0-19 straight up in their past 19 Mountain West conference road games. So when you see UNLV opening up as a six-point favorite and the early money is all on Wyoming moving the line a full 3 points you can understand why. UNLV junior quarterback Omar Clayton is coming off a 28 of 43 passing performance for 340 yards and three touchdowns but two interceptions in the Hawaii game. The question is can Omar Clayton’s good non-conference numbers carry over into their first road game of the season, which just happens to be their Mountain West conference opener. UNLV will need to be better on pass defense as the Rebels are giving up an average of 258 yards per game through the air. The Wyoming Cowboys enter conference play with a 1-2 record on the year. The team is coming off a 24-0 loss to Colorado. Wyoming has struggled for points scoring 10 against Texas and were shut out to Colorado in their two games against high profile programs. Wyoming is going to start freshman quarterback Austyn Carta-Samuels on Saturday and it will be his first start of his career. Carta-Samuels is hitting on just 49% of his passes this season with no touchdowns and no interceptions on the season.
