Published on September 9, 2009 by   ·   No Comments

It will be an NFC East battle on opening day as the Washington Redskins travel to the Meadowlands to face division rivals the New York Giants in a key NFL game on Sunday afternoon. Kickoff time at the Meadowlands is scheduled for 4:15PM Eastern Time with regional coverage provided by Fox Television. The Las Vegas Sports Consultants sent out the opening line to the Las Vegas sports books and they opened the home team New York Giants as 5 ½ point favorites with the over under lined at 39. The early money from the NFL sports betting public has come in on the favored Giants as they have moved up to a 6 ½ point favorite. The total has been betted downward by the NFL bettors to a current over under of 37. NFL money line gamblers can make a play on the New York Giants at –300 with the Washington Redskins bringing back +250 to win straight up with the aid of getting points.

The Redskins outstanding defense in 2008 will get better in 2009 as the team acquired defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth in free agency. The Redskins were solid against the run allowing just 95.4 yards per game a year ago. The one area on defense the Redskins will look to improve on was their 28th ranking in sacks. The issue facing the Redskins has been their lack of offense. The team averaged just 16.6 points per game and more is being asked of starting quarterback Jason Campbell to improve on his 13 touchdowns passes. Campbell has no contract next season and will need to bolster big numbers. The Redskins will lean on the ground with veterans Clinton Portis and Ladell Betts. It is time for Randle El and Santana Moss to increase production at the wide out position. On the Giants side starting quarterback Eli Manning was rewarded with a huge contract in the off season. He is fortunate to have one of the NFL’s best running games with Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw. The questions surrounding the Giants will be the play of their wide receivers as the team suffered offensively when Plaxico Burress was hit with legal problems and forced to miss the end of the season. The team is very young at wide out and the verdict is still out on who will be the main targets in the passing game once the season begins. On the defensive side the Giants are scary good with one of the best pass rushing defensive lines in football.
