The past two meetings between these schools have seen high scoring games. Both offenses have shown improvement in recent years. Miami will start Jacory Harris a sophomore at quarterback. Harris saw action last season as Miami ran a rotating quarterback system. Harris hit on just under 61% of his passes as a freshman for 12 touchdowns and 7 interceptions while completing for 1195 yards. Harris stands six foot four inches tall and is 190 pounds. Graig Cooper the Hurricanes leading rusher is back and will look to build upon a 4.9 yards per carry average in 2009. Harris will have his entire pass catching receivers back. Four of the Hurricanes offensive lineman has seen starts in college. Miami has good depth and experience on their defensive line and secondary and it’s their linebacking corps that’s inexperienced. On the Florida St side the Seminoles will start junior Christian Ponder at quarterback. Ponder hit on over 55% of his passes in 2008 for 2006 yards, 14 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. The Seminoles must replace their top running back from a year ago as Antoine Smith and his 866 rushing yards is out of college eligibility. The Seminoles also must replace their top 2 wide outs from 2008. The projected starters at wide receiver are both smallish standing only 5’ 11” tall. On the defensive side of the ball the Seminoles lost 7 starters. The Seminoles lose 4 defensive linemen including their leading sack man from 2008.
