Head coach Steve Spurrier’s South Carolina Gamecocks will visit the North Carolina Wolfpack to open the 2009 college football regular season on Thursday night. Kickoff time is set for 7PM Eastern Time with national television coverage provided by ESPN. The LVSC college football odds makers have set the opening line for the sports betting public and the home team North Carolina St have opened as 3 ½ point favorites with the over under coming in at 46. The Gamecock’s defense unraveled late last season allowing 87 points in their last 2 regular season games. After a 2-6 start the Wolfpack finished the regular season with 4 straight wins and earned a berth in the Papa Johns Bowl. Quarterback Russell Wilson completed 54.5% of his passes a year ago for just under 2000 yards with 17 touchdowns and only 1 interception. Russell is also a threat to run as the quarterback rushed for 388 net yards last season. The team returns its two top pass catching receivers from a year ago. Russell Wilson has bad memories about their meeting a year ago as he suffered a grade 3 concussion against South Carolina that knocked him out of the game.
