Miguel Cotto versus Joshua Clottey HBO Championship Boxing Betting Odds Preview

This Saturday Night from Madison Square Garden in New York City Miguel Cotto will face Joshua Clottey in a Welterweight bout scheduled for 12 rounds. HBO Boxing will provide the live coast-to-coast television coverage beginning at 10:35PM Eastern Time. The current odds reveal Miguel Cotto as a –350 favorite with Joshua Clottey paying back +250 to pull off the upset win. The over under round prop has been set at 9 ½ rounds with the over favored at –300 with under 9 ½ rounds paying +220 as the underdog round prop. Fight outcome odds show Cotto by KO, TKO or DQ coming in at +300 with Cotto by decision the favored outcome returning –150. Clottey by KO, TKO or DQ is lined at +700 with Clottey by decision bringing back +500. The draw pays +2000.

Miguel Cotto owns a professional record of 34 victories and 1 loss with 27 wins coming by way of knockout. The 28-year-old Puerto Rican Welterweight fighter is coming off a TKO victory over Michael Jennings back in February of this year. Last July Cotto suffered his lone defeat losing to Antonio Margarito by TKO for the WBA Welterweight Title. Cotto has notable victories over Shane Mosley, Carlos Quintana and Zab Judah.

Joshua Clottey enters his fight with Miguel Cotto with a professional record of 35 wins and 2 losses with 20 wins coming by knockout. The 32-year-old welterweight from Ghana is coming off a victory over Zab Judah back in August of 2008. Clottey’s last loss was to Antonio Margarito back in December of 2006 by unanimous decision. Clottey had suffered a broken hand in the fourth round of his bout with Margarito and still was able to survive to lose a close unanimous decision. Clottey has put together a string of 5 straight victories.

Cotto/Clottey is a big ticket in New York based on Miguel Cotto’s Puerto Rican descent. It’s the weekend of the annual Puerto Rican Day parade in New York City so Cotto will have plenty of support on Saturday Night. Ring Magazine ranks Miguel Cotto as the #7 pound for pound best fighter in all weights in boxing. Clottey will own a 3-inch reach advantage against Cotto in their bout.
