Published on May 31, 2009 by   ·   No Comments

It will be game 2 of the best of 7 NHL Stanley Cup Playoff finals between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Detroit Red Wings on Sunday. Detroit leads the series 1-0 off of their 3-1 game 1 victory on Saturday. The second game of the NHL Stanley Cup Finals is scheduled to be played in Detroit at 8PM Eastern Time with NBC televising nationally in the United States and CBC in Canada. With no NBA game scheduled for Sunday the NHL schedules the second game of the Stanley Cup Playoff in prime time. LVSC has set the odds for game 2 and the Detroit Red Wings opened as a –115 favorite with the Penguins bringing back +100 to win game 2. The total opened at 5 ½ goals. The early money has come in on the home team, as Detroit is currently a –150 favorite with Pittsburgh paying +130 to pull off the upset. The total has seen no movement and is currently lined at 5 ½ goals. Puck line players who lay 1 ½ goals with Detroit will be paid +210 if Detroit can win by 2 or more goals and on the Pittsburgh side will earn –240 with a 1 ½ goal head start in game 2.

The Red Wings are off to a 1-0 lead in this series based on a solid night by their goaltender. Red Wing goalie Chris Osgood stopped 31 of 32 shots on Saturday. The Penguins will try and generate some offense in game 2 and avoid falling behind 0-2 like they did last year. The Penguins were shut out in both game’s 1 and 2 in the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs last season. The key to game 1 was Pittsburgh’s inability to get one past Osgood on a breakaway and two man advantages during period number two. Game 2 is being played on back-to-back nights due to weekend prime time television and it should be interesting to see if we have a wide-open game with lots of shots on goal bringing end-to-end action.

Trend: Detroit is 11-4 in their past 15 meetings

The Wagerline consensus has 59.8% of the bettors on Detroit -150

The Wagerline consensus has 79.6% of the bettors playing over 5 1/2
